Fundu Lagoon is a unique Beach Hotel in the Indian Ocean, spread over 18 acres on the west coast of the island of Pemba, north of the Zanzibar mainland. Nestled into the secluded, undiscovered coastline of the Wambaa Peninsular the location boasts 4.5 Kilometres of white, sandy beach. The Hotel comprises 16 bungalows, three bars and a restaurant with a modern-eco feel, specifically designed and hand-crafted to blend with the natural environment of this fertile isle. A new Infinity swimming pool was completed in 2006, with the addition of the Pool Bar, which serves drinks and light snacks throughout the day. Now listed as one of the top diving locations in the world, we also cater for the more energetic holiday-maker with a fully-equipped PADI diving Centre and a wide range of water-sports including snorkelling, sailing, fishing, water-skiing and kayaking. Fundu Lagoon is a unique resort designed for couples and groups of friends looking to escape the usual holiday crowds as well as divers and water-sports lovers looking for a perfect combination of quality activities and luxury. Whatever you're looking for, Fundu Lagoon provides a friendly, relaxed haven of peace and outstanding natural beauty. A short walk from your bungalow takes you to the atmospheric Restaurant and Bar sitting beneath a magnificent sweeping Makuti roof. A number of different levels give ample opportunity to dine alone or in groups, inside or out. The priority is to provide high-quality dishes reflecting the local area and its produce - the emphasis, of course, is on locally caught seafood whilst more carnivorous or vegetarian tastes are catered for with the same degree of care. The Restaurant Bar has a small, quiet lounge area ideal for an aperitif or after dinner coffee and liqueurs. Another short stroll through reception to the jetty takes you to the larger Jetty Bar which forms a stunning setting for occasional traditional Swahili barbecues and gives party people a chance to stay up and have a good time until the early hours. Situated part of the way along the 200 metre jetty, during the day The Bar and its decking provide a beautiful spot for sunbathing and making use of the warm waters of the Indian ocean. To one side of Reception sits the Dive 7 10 diving centre. From here you can organise any number of activities from snorkelling to full PADI Open Water Diving Courses and all other water-sports. Tucked away back inside the main area of the resort there is a Satellite TV room with low-level cushioned seating for those who wish to keep up with goings-on in the rest of the world, and outside on the balcony you can play pool and darts whilst being catered for from the bar. The Boutique in Reception stocks a high class range of goods including Fundu Lagoon clothing and Apothecary products, jewellery, African artefacts and a small selection of toiletries. Fundu Lagoon is managed by management couple Matt Semark and Anie Ardiani. They have developed a special relationship with the staff, most of whom are local Zanzibarians or Pembans and most of whom have been part of the development of the resort from day one. The unique relaxed and friendly atmosphere in the area is almost entirely down to the staffs good nature. Many of the staff have a background in hotel trades and have brought their experience to bear on every aspect of the resort and newcomers to the business have taken to their disciplines with the utmost of ease and dedication. We can strongly recommend this exclusive luxury beach Hotel on Pemba Island far from the rest of the world. |
