Fundu Lagoon - Diving

The waters of the Indian Ocean are among the richest and most exciting in the world. The ocean around Fundu Lagoon on Pemba Island and in the Pemba Channel is renowned in both Scuba Diving and Fishing circles as one of the world's best.

Dive 710 is managed by friendly & very experienced Dive Instructors - Joni, Filbert and Riikka. Again, the emphasis is on getting the most fun out of the sport whilst retaining the utmost respect for the environment and for diver safety.

The main dive boats can take up to 14 divers and are capable of 50 knots. With these Rigid Raiders any part of Pemba Islands can be reached in a day’s outing.

Total novices can either take the PADI Discover Scuba Diving Course - a 2-3 hour introduction to the underwater world involving a look at the equipment and theory followed by some basic skills and a shallow dive on a coral reef or, for those who want a qualification there is the PADI Open Water Course- a four day course for beginners providing a thorough grounding in scuba diving theory and underwater skill, producing safe and confident scuba divers. We also offer Advanced, Rescue and Divemaster Courses.

Underwater visibility often reaches 40 meters or more. Looking over the precipice of some of the outer walls can be a mind blowing experience! Watch out for the Vertigo!

In these deeper waters the large Napoleon Wrasse swims side by side with big pelagic game fish - tuna, jacks, wahoo, big shoals of barracuda... Manta and eagle rays frequent the area as do many species of shark. Giant groupers can reach lengths of 2 metres. Hawskbill and green turtles swim, rest and eat on these reefs. Curious garden eels peer out of their hides in sandy ravines. Playing in the shallower depths are numerous smaller reef fish, crustaceans, brightly coloured star fish and molluscs all at home in the vibrant surrounds of the beautiful corals and sponges.
