In designing Ras Nungwi, great attention has been paid to detail. Natural materials have been used wherever possible, including makuti (palm-leaf) roofing over all structures, creating the feeling of freedom that is only possible in an open-air environment.

With a network of pathways connecting the different hotel areas, and the strikingly ethnic design elements, Ras Nungwi is certainly a unique beach hotel. It beas little resemblance to other East African resorts or other Zanzibar Hotels.

The hotel's deck-level swimming pool is lined with glass mosaic tiles in shades of blue, and commands stunning views of the Indian Ocean.
