Hakuna Majiwe is a medium priced, newly built, small family run lodge, with 20 rooms facing the sea, an attractive pool and good food. It is set on the beach which runs as far as the eye can see on the sleepy South East Coast of Zanzibar far away from the rest of the world. Hakuna Majiwe means "place without stones" in Kiswahili. This is an apt description for this lodge set on a plot of 250 yards of fine white sand beach shaded by coconut tree that sway in the almost constant fresh sea breeze. It is here, between the little villages of Paje and Jambiani, that Margherita and her husband decided to put down their roots. They have created a small welcoming lodge with lots of charm and attention to detail. There are no other tourist developments nearby but the hotel is within walking distance of other small beach bars and guest houses if you want to change scenery. The East Coast of Zanzibar is blessed by an almost constant cool breeze from the sea which keeps the temperature down and insures that there are normally almost no mosquitoes. The lodge has a large restaurant area, bar and lounge all directly on the beach. These areas are decorated attractively in local style. The cuisine offers a variety of Italian and local swahili dishes as well a vegetarian or fish based menu. Both Sushi and Sashimi can be ordered on request. You can either choose from the à la carte menu or half or full board. There is a large fresh water swimming 28 x 12 yards a massage area a beach house and a shop with in-house tailoring and dress-making. The rooms are in ten bungalows each with two rooms, all facing the sea. Each room is spacious and has a large veranda (18m2). and has a four-poster bed, ceiling fan, a bathroom with hot water, a shower, toilet and bidet. Activities Snorkelling around the reef, and a wide range of excursions. It is also possible to hire a motor or sailing boat, bicycle, motorbike or car through the lodge.
