Mchanga Beach Lodge

General Nestled between one of Zanzibar’s most pristine, white, power-sand beaches and swaying coconut palms lies romantic Mchanga Beach Lodge. Tranquillity and nature are what abound here. For a close-up encounter with the uncomplicated rhythm of a tropical island holiday, with one beautiful day unfolding into the next, Mchanga Beach Lodge, Zanzibar, offers just that. As an “after-safari” beach R&R, Mchanga Beach Lodge will allow the magic to continue uninterrupted. Location: 45 kms from Stone town, Mchanga Beach Lodge is situated on the undeveloped north east cost of Zanzibar, between Pwani Mchangani and Matemwe with views to Mnemba Island. Accommodation: We have recently re-built Mchanga Beach Lodge and now offer 6 beautifully designed Sea View Lodge Rooms and 2 Garden Suites. Each en-suite Sea View Lodge Room is spacious and airy with a combination of multi-functional shuttered, hand crafted, wooden louver doors, electric ceiling fans, air conditioning and traditionally high beamed ceilings. A beautiful, finely, hand-crafted Zanzibari four poster bed is the focal point in the room, together with the highest quality fine percale cotton bedding; ensuring maximum comfort. A classic baraza seating area with kanga covered cushions enhances the spaciousness of the room. All furniture and accessories, including art work, are locally crafted. Relief arch detail, accents of coloured glass, and soft neru finishes add a high standard of finishing. Each room has its own sea facing, makuti covered sand terrace; including two chairs and a table where early morning coffee and tea are delivered. Low voltage lighting with easy access from within the mosquito net to on and off switches, a hot and cold sweet water shower complete the rooms. Our two large en-suite Garden Suites enjoy the same furnishing, accessories and finishing as our Sea View Lodge Rooms. The Garden Suites also include a double baraza seating area that can be converted into additional sleeping area for adults or children from the age of 12. The Garden Suites each have a covered terrace as well as a makuti covered sand terrace with additional seating. Restaurant: Set under a high makuti roof, our relaxed, open-air restaurant offers sea views and lush tropical flowers. Our menu selection specialises in authentic Swahili Kitchen, using traditional methods and ingredients in the preparation of memorable meals. Seafood, meat and vegetarian dishes are available. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are served by our friendly, English speaking staff.   Bar: “Bar under the Palms” is set under a large makuti roof which has been built around the coconut palms. The bar is open for day and night enjoyment – with home made juices, cocktails, a well stocked selection of wine, champagne and spirits. Facilities: Because Mchanga Beach Lodge (Mchanga is Kiswahili for “sand”) is at sea level and not set on a coral reef, our exceptionally beautiful white sandy beach allows for easy and safe swimming. Set between the restaurant and “Bar under the Palms” is our 13 m, sweet water, sea facing pool. Traditional beach beds and cushions are available to place wherever you like between the pool and the sea. Three charming beach Bandas nestled in the dunes offer shade, sea breezes and views of Mnemba Island the outer edges of Zanzibar’s coral reef. There is a boccia/boulle pit. We offer a semi-enclosed reading/games corner. Next to the office is an eclectically stocked shop including one -off pieces sourced in Zanzibar. Transport and Excursions: We gladly will arrange transfers to and from Mchanga Beach Lodge to Airport/Stonetown. All excursions to points of interest, Spice Plantation Tours and Jozani Forrest Tours can be also arranged through our office as well as luxury catamaran sailing, snorkeling and/or diving trips to the Mnemba atoll
